Rooms Division Operation-The Functions of Front desk, Reservation, Cashier, Concierge, Housekeeping and Laundry.

Front desk
Hotel front desk clerks make room reservations, provide information and services to guests and receive payment for services. They are employed by hotels, motels and resorts.

Duties
Hotel front desk clerks perform some or all of the following duties:
1.Greeting Visitors
2. Maintain an inventory of vacancies, reservations and room assignments
3. Register arriving guests and assign rooms
4. Answer enquiries regarding hotel services and registration by letter, by telephone and in person, provide information about services available in the community and respond to guests' complaints
5. Compile and check daily record sheets, guest accounts, receipts and vouchers using computerized or manual systems

Reservation
Responds to communications from guests, travel agents, and referral networks concerning reservations arriving by mail, telephone, telex, cable, fax, or through a central reservation system. Creates and maintains reservation records-usually by date of arrival and alphabetical listing prepares letters of confirmation and promptly processes any cancellations and modifications.Tracks future room availability on the basis of reservations, and helps develop forecasts for room revenue and occupancy. Additional duties may include preparing the list of expected arrivals for the front office, assisting in preregistration activities when appropriate, and processing advance reservation deposits.

Duties
Hotel Reservation agent performs some or all of the following duties:
1. Processes reservations by mail, telephone, telex, cable, fax or central reservation systems referral.
2. Processes reservations from the sales office, other hotel departments, and travel agents.
3. Knows the type of rooms available as well as their location and layout.
4. Knows the selling status, rates, and benefits of all packages plans.
5. Knows the credit policy of the hotel and how to code each reservation.
6. Creates and maintains reservation records by date of arrival and alphabetical listing.
7. Determines room rates based on the selling tactics of the hotel.
8. Prepares letters of confirmation.
9. Communicates reservation information to the front desk.
10. Processes cancellations and modifications and promptly relays this information to the front desk.
11. Understands the hotel's policy on guaranteed reservations and no-shows.
12. Processes advance deposits on reservations.
13. Tracks future room availabilities on the basis of reservations.

Cashier
Receive and disburse money in establishments other than financial institutions. Usually involves use of electronic scanners, cash registers, or related equipment. Often involved in processing credit or debit card transactions and validating checks.


Duties
Cashier performs some or all of the following duties:
1. Receive payment by cash, check, credit cards, vouchers, or automatic debits.
2. Issue receipts, refunds, credits, or change due to customers.
3. Count money in cash drawers at the beginning of shifts to ensure that amounts are correct and that there is adequate change.
4. Greet customers entering establishments.
5. Maintain clean and orderly checkout areas.
6. Establish or identify prices of goods, services or admission, and tabulate bills using calculators, cash registers, or optical price scanners.

7. Issue trading stamps, and redeem food stamps and coupons.
8. Resolve customer complaints.
9. Answer customers' questions, and provide information on procedures or policies.

10. Cash checks for customers.
11. Weigh items sold by weight in order to determine prices.
12. Calculate total payments received during a time period, and reconcile this with total sales.
13. Compute and record totals of transactions.



Concierge
Assist patrons at hotel, apartment or office building with personal services. May take messages, arrange or give advice on transportation, business services or entertainment, or monitor guest requests for housekeeping and maintenance.

Duties
Concierge performs some or all of the following duties:
1) Make dining and other reservations for patrons, and obtain tickets for events.
2) Provide information about local features such as shopping, dining, nightlife, and recreational destinations.
3) Make travel arrangements for sightseeing and other tours.
4) Receive, store, and deliver luggage and mail.
5) Perform office duties on a temporary basis when needed.
6) Pick up and deliver items, or run errands for guests.

7) Carry out unusual requests such as searching for hard-to-find items and arranging for exotic services such as hot-air balloon rides.
8) Arrange for the replacement of items lost by travelers.
9) Arrange for interpreters or translators when patrons require such services.

10) Plan special events, parties, and meetings, which may include booking musicians or celebrities to appear.

Housekeeping
Provides superlative service to River Dance Lodge guests and co-workers in performing all housekeeping duties. Note that our accommodations are not typical hotel rooms, but rather, they are cabins with several rooms. This requires more attention to detail and following procedures than a typical hotel situation.

Duties
Housekeeping performs some or all of the following duties:
1. Follows detailed worksheet for each cabin cleaning
2. Completes inventory of cabin contents on form provided. Provides information on any missing items to the manager.
3. Daily maintenance of hot tubs.
4. Clean building floors and walls by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming them.
5. Change bedding and make beds as directed.
6. Stock cabin food supplies (coffee, tea, sugar, etc.) as needed.
7. Replenish supplies such as drinking glasses, linens, writing supplies, and bathroom items.
8. Gather and empty trash.
9. Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.
10. Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees.
11. Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.
12. Move and arrange furniture, and turn mattresses.
13. Make adjustments and to heating, cooling and ventilating systems.
14. Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.

Laundry
Operate or tend washing or dry-cleaning machines to wash or dry-clean industrial or household articles, such as cloth garments, suede, leather, furs, blankets, draperies, linens, rugs, and carpets. Includes spotters and dyers of these articles.

Duties
Housekeeping performs some or all of the following duties:
1. Spray steam, water, or air over spots to flush out chemicals, dry material, raise naps, or brighten colors.
2. Operate dry-cleaning machines to clean soiled articles.
3. Receive and mark articles for laundry or dry cleaning with identifying code numbers or names, using hand or machine markers.
4. Test fabrics in inconspicuous places to determine whether solvents will damage dyes or fabrics.
5. Start washers, dry cleaners, driers, or extractors, and turn valves or levers to regulate machine processes and the volume of soap, detergent, water, bleach, starch, and other additives.
6. Sort and count articles removed from dryers, and fold, wrap, or hang them.
7. Examine and sort into lots articles to be cleaned, according to color, fabric, dirt content, and cleaning technique required.
8. Load articles into washers or dry-cleaning machines, or direct other workers to perform loading.
9. Pre-soak, sterilize, scrub, spot-clean, and dry contaminated or stained articles, using neutralizer solutions and portable machines.
10. Mix and add detergents, dyes, bleaches, starches, and other solutions and chemicals to clean, color, dry, or stiffen articles.
11. Start pumps to operate distilling systems that drain and reclaim dry cleaning solvents.
12. Clean machine filters, and lubricate equipment
13. Remove items from washers or dry-cleaning machines, or direct other workers to do so.
